Isuzu Motors has big plans for Indian market as well as for
global markets. To boost sales, it is establishing new plant in Andhra Pradesh
in India.
Upcoming plant will have installed capacity of 1.2 lakh
units per year, out of which 1/4th will be for exports. Isuzu has signed pact
with Andhra Pradesh government and plant will be set up at Sri City in
Chittoor’s SEZ. Company has its headquarters in Tokyo with manufacturing plants
in Thailand and China from where Isuzu Automotive runs its export operations to
more than 100 countries worldwide. Location in Andhra Pradesh is hoped to
attract suppliers and component manufacturers in much the same way as when
Toyota opened its Karnataka plant which helped to draw over 150 auto component
manufacturers. Sri City is close to Chennai where auto related industries sprawled.
It is also near ports that help in export and import operations.
Initially, Isuzu Motors will manufacture pickup truck D-MAX
and MU-7 SUV from Isuzu Andhra Pradesh plant both have been launched in India.
In the meantime, till 2015, company is expecting to begin marketing operations
from facilities of another auto company, bringing in their products in CKD form
from Thailand. Isuzu cars in India will prove hit because of their durable
