The Chennai plant, on which Ford spent $142 million, will be exporting EcoSport in India and several other European and Asian nations.

Ford EcoSport is among the most counted launches of the year as this sub-four metre SUV will posing a straight challenge to several others major players such as Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster, Mahindra Quanto, Mahindra S101, Maruti XA Alpha, and a few others. Central government's decision to announce 3% hike in price of SUVs to 30% will not affect price of Ford EcoSport SUV when it is revealed in India. As per a report in The Hindu, company’s official said models such as EcoSport will not be affected by this rise in duty; Endeavour model, however, will now cost more. After impressive show by compact SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) like Renault Duster in India, other car manufacturers are curious to get a share of this fast-growing segment of vehicles. Car maniacs are looking forward to the launch of Ford EcoSport scheduled for March 2013 although no date has been officially confirmed yet.

Initial reviews about this utility vehicle suggest Ford Ecosport is as close to what it looked like at Delhi Auto show where it was first exhibited in India early last year. EcoSport’s interiors have been declared ‘classy’ by those who have taken a close look on it. Car looks fresh and comes with large spacious, providing sufficient leg and headroom for compact SUV. Interiors promise to be ‘the quietest’. Further, ride on EcoSport has been described as smooth and stable, and gearbox and handling have also received a thumbs up. This automobile will come to India with two engine options- 1.0 liter Ecoboost Petrol engine as well as the 1.5 liter diesel engine.
